Julia Goldsworthy MP has praised a Redruth company that won a prestigious environmental award.

Printing firm Stralfors won the Printweek Environmental Company of the Year prize for its work in reducing its carbon footprint.

Goldsworthy said it was a shining example of how good practice on the environment can also lead to more profit.

She said: “Stralfors are leading the way in demonstrating how reducing environmental impact can make business more competitive. They have demonstrated with tangible results how energy consumption can be reduced.”

The firm has introduced energy saving measures such as motion sensitive lights, rainwater recovery and waste reduction measures. It has also installed a monthly ‘power perfector’ unit which has saved nearly 20% on electricity bills.

Goldsworthy, who has signed her own office up to a 10% reduction in energy consumption, said every firm can do their bit.

She said: “By signing up to the 10:10 campaign, which seeks a 10% reduction in energy consumption by end of 2010, we too can all do our bit to take the first step in reducing our energy bills and our environmental impact.”
