The owners of a unique development of Eco holiday homes in South East Cornwall are celebrating after scooping a top honour at this year’s Daily Mail UK Property Awards.

Falcon Ridge – where 15 contemporary and highly eco friendly holiday homes on the site of the former Dobwalls Adventure Park near Liskeard, are being created – has been named the Best Development in Cornwall in the highly prestigious national property awards.

The award will be presented to site owner – Malcolm Southern – at a Gala Ceremony at the Royal Lancaster Hotel on October 31st, where Falcon Ridge will also be in the running to take the Best UK Development award with the possibility of going on to represent the UK in the International Property finals in the USA in November.

Falcon Ridge was selected following a rigorous judging process by UK property luminaries that included Helen Shield, editor-in-chief of International Homes magazine; Peter Bolton King, chief executive of the National Association of Estate Agents; Phil Spencer, property expert and presenter of Channel 4’s Location and Relocation TV shows; Imtiaz Farookhi, chief executive of the National House Building Council; and  Laura Ashley designer Gillian Farr.

The unique homes, complete with moss sedum roofs, a highly energy efficient heating system, glass walls and built using quality timber from sustainable forests, caught the eye of the judges who were looking for design innovation, location and environmentally friendly features in addition to high quality marketing materials.

Falcon Ridge owner Malcolm Southern, whose family have owned the site since it was Cornwall’s largest pig farm in the late 1960’s before turning it into Dobwalls Adventure Park said he was delighted that the site had won such a prestigious, national title so early in its new life.

“We have had to face some very tough decisions over the past two years – to stand still and see the slow demise and eventual closure of Dobwalls Adventure Park as a result of changing tourism patterns, or to be proactive and seek to evolve the site to meet the needs of the new tourism and visitor market in Cornwall.

“In the past 18 months, we have created a unique environment for the collection of 15 holiday homes, and we are absolutely over the moon that the work we have done to create Falcon Ridge, not only in terms of the design and creation of the unique homes but also the transformation of the site with hundreds of plants, trees and shrubs planted to create a very natural environment, along with the eco-focus of the development, has resulted in this award,” said Malcolm.

“We are now in with a chance of gaining the Best UK Development award and could also be put forward for the International finals which is a testament to and a reflection of the dedication and expertise of everyone who has been involved in the project,” he added.

Currently, two of the 15 homes have been built, acting as show homes for the site which has been attracting a lot of attention and which also featured in the Sunday Telegraph property section and is also due to appear in a future edition of Grand Designs Magazine.

The first phase of the Falcon Ridge development is being marketed through Stags, on 01752 223933. Alternatively visit www.falconridgeliving.com or www.dobwalls.com for more information or call 01579 320 325.
