Cornwall’s largest architectural practice this week announced the appointment of its newest director. Rachael Gaunt joins the board of St Ives-based Poynton Bradbury Wynter Cole Architects Ltd, becoming the 20-strong firm’s first female director.

She joined the firm in 2001 and has worked on education projects and a number of lifeboat stations. She is currently heading the design team on Cornwall Council’s £7 million state-of-the-art Carclaze Community Primary School, St Austell, which is due for completion later this year.

At the same time, director Cedric Wynter is standing down from the board but will continue as a consultant with the practice. PBWC Ltd was founded in 1973 and has grown steadily over the years, seeing its work published in a number of technical journals and winning more than 20 major awards along the way.

“We are delighted to have Rachael on board,” remarked fellow director Mike Bradbury. “Her expertise greatly strengthens the team and lays the foundations for our long term growth.”
