Perranporth-based renewable energy expert, Natural Generation, has been selected to install a community energy turbine in south Wales.

Natural Generation, which has installed around 200 turbines to date, has been contracted by The Small Wind Co-op, a crowdfunded community scheme developed by Sharenergy.

MD, Ivor Thomson, said: “We were delighted to be chosen to install the turbine at Troed Y Bryn – community energy schemes are projects close to our hearts, providing local energy and generating an income to invest into the local community.”

The scheme, which will see a 180kW turbine installed at the village in Ceredigion, surpassed its initial minimum fundraising target of £1 million.  A second tranche of shares has now been released with priority for people living within 20 miles of the turbine site.

As well as offering a stable return for members, supported by the Feed-in Tariff, the project will generate a community fund of £3k a year (index-linked) for 20 years which will initially be used to improve Llangeitho Village Hall and playpark.
