Steve Double, MP for St Austell and Newquay, visited a series of new zero-carbon housing sites in Newquay this week, developed by Verto Homes, a leading Smart Home developer.

Verto Homes has now built 21 innovative zero carbon Smart Homes with a further 46 in construction, on a series of brownfield sites across the town.

Double met with Verto co-founders Tom Carr and Richard Pearce to see how the business is growing, and hear more about accessing finance through Funding Circle, an online marketplace for small business loans.

Since 2014, Verto Homes has borrowed £7.2 million directly from investors through Funding Circle, allowing it to develop 14 homes at Towan Heights and seven homes at Island Reach, whilst also beginning construction on its latest 46 unit development Hilgrove Mews.

Double said: “It’s great to see businesses in Newquay leading the way in creating sustainable homes which protect our stunning natural environment.

“Verto Homes are clearly bringing a huge amount of value to the local community, by creating new housing stock on brownfield sites and employing local tradesmen and apprentices.

“As someone who has run a small business myself, I also understand how vital quick access to finance is, so I was therefore glad to hear that developers can access the funds they need to get projects off the ground through platforms like Funding Circle.”
