Crews from Redruth-based Richfords Fire & Flood are en route north England to help the clear-up operation in the wake of Storm Desmond.

Storm Desmond has left a trail of destruction across Cumbria, Northumberland and Lancashire with roads, bridges and rail lines cut off while thousands of homes are under water and without electricity.

Teams from Richfords are taking up van loads of equipment to Hexham in Northumberland, so that flood water can be extracted from homes and businesses. The next stage in the work will be to sanitise the properties, dry them and eventually carry out any repair work.

Michael Cooper from Richfords Fire & Flood is organising the deployment. He said: “As water levels recede we will be able to assess the full scale of the damage and then jump into action to start the recovery process.

“We have incredibly powerful drying equipment that can deal with large buildings but also the skills necessary to cope with making sure heritage structures are safely restored.”
