Carn Brea Leisure Centre has announced details of a £200k expansion to its health and fitness facilities.

The gym at the Pool-based complex is set to grow by a third in size to 400sq m, while the changing rooms are to be completely refurbished.

The improvement works will be undertaken in November and December and will be overseen by the trust’s newly-appointed health & fitness manager, Philip Hudson.

He said: “I am delighted to be taking the lead in all things health and fitness and can’t wait for the project to get started.

“The planned improvements will result in Carn Brea having one of the biggest and best health and fitness facilities in the county, which in turn will drive new and innovative concepts and massively improve our customer’s experience.”

Following the disappointment of last year’s land sale falling through, the gym expansion project  forms the first step of a refreshed re-development strategy the trust has put in place to enhance the centre’s facilities.

Alex Clifton, the trust’s chief operating officer, added: “We haven’t ruled out the possibility that a land sale will provide the capital required to upgrade the centre as a whole going forwards, but with the building now 42 years old, we felt a number of immediate improvements were necessary.”
