Rupert Wilson, landlord of the Ship Inn, said: “We are all over the moon at being named Best Foodie Pub in such a prestigious award, especially as it was a public vote and against such great opponents.

“It has taken time to rebuild the reputation of the pub since we opened but this is a real seal of approval of what we are doing. It was amazing to be amongst the best restaurants and producers in the south west and to actually win the award.”

Other local winners included Sharp’s Doom Bar, which won best drink; Padstow Seafood School, which won Best Cookery School; and Nathan Outlaw, who was crowned Best Local Hero.
