Duchy College Rosewarne has announced details of an introductory beekeeping course, which it is set to hold at various locations across Cornwall.

The course, which is being run through the college’s Rural Business School (RBS), will cover the equipment and facilities needed to keep bees as well as valuable hands-on practice in hive management.

Farmers and foresters interested in diversifying into small scale honey production, can benefit from 50% funding through RBS’ Skills Programme.

Skills Programme co-ordinator, Lorraine Turnbull, said: “Keeping bees is becoming more popular with farmers and small-holders. Not only is it a very enjoyable activity but it can be financially rewarding as well, especially in the south west where unique habitats, like heather moors, produce high quality honey with great flavours.”
