A seminar addressing export issues for Cornish businesses is being held at Tremough this summer.

Local MP Sarah Newton will be among the speakers at the Exporting for Growth event on August 1, while there will also be experts on hand from UKTI as well as from the banking and finance sectors.

Newton commented: “For far too long too many UK firms have relied on the domestic economy to foster growth. That growth was often supported by massive government and private debt. We need to look more widely for sustainable growth in our economy.

“We need to look at trade and investment. The national challenge is to raise the number of UK companies exporting from one in five, to one in four. If 100,000 companies started exporting that could create £30 billion for the UK economy. That would wipe out our trade deficit.

“There are unsung heroes in Cornish businesses, exporting products and services around the world and I believe that there is great potential for others to start exporting or explore new markets.

“I am pleased the UKTI have responded to my request to put on this event in Cornwall to inspire businesses and highlight the help that is available to enable them to grow and create the new jobs and prosperity we all want to see in Cornwall.”
