Cornwall tops bankruptcy list

Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly is the bankruptcy capital of the country, according to latest figures.

National debt charity Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) lists the Duchy top of the tree, with 24 people per 10,000 bankrupt in 2009, the most recent available figures for bankruptcy per county.

Northumberland is in second place with 23.5 per 10,000, and our neighbours Devon in third with 23.4.

Greater London has the lowest rate of bankruptcy, at 11 people per 10,000.
