Restaurateur and TV chef, Rick Stein, will officially open this year’s Fal Fish Festival, organisers have announced.

Starting on Sunday, May 29, the two-day festival forms a key part of the ten-day Greenbank Fal River Festival.

Over 5,000 people attended last year’s inaugural event and organisers hope Stein’s presence combined with good weather will boost the figures.

Run by Falmouth Festivals Ltd and sponsored by Rick Stein’s Fish and Chips and the Greenbank Hotel, the event gives visitors the chance to enjoy a range of cooking demonstrations by local chefs and will feature a wide range of foodie stalls, arts and crafts, live music and a children’s puppet show. The festival will also raise funds and awareness for The Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen, of which Stein is the Vice-Patron.

He said: “I’m really pleased to be opening the festival this year. It’s great to support an event which promotes the use of quality, fresh, local produce from the region and encourages people to try dishes they wouldn’t normally try and obviously its great to raise awareness for the Fishermen’s Mission.”
