A free workshop for businesses seeking advice on how to get to grips with record keeping, business planning and VAT returns is being offered by Hodgsons Chartered Accountants in Launceston on September 22nd.

Keeping accurate and up to date records is not only a legal obligation but it is also vital to the effective running of any business. Aimed at helping new and small businesses, the workshop is suitable for those with a very basic knowledge of accounting and will cover the following areas:

  • Record Keeping – bank reconciliations, filing, invoicing and basic checks
  • VAT – registration levels, schemes and how to complete a VAT return
  • Payroll, how to work out PAYE, year end routines and paying casual staff
  • Computerised records with practical demonstrations of Excel, Sage and Quickbooks
  • Business planning and commercial advice

There will also be workstations with Hodgsons experts ready to give individual advice and further information on the subjects above.

Peter Hodgson, Senior Partner at Hodgsons said: “Every year we receive several hundred sets of records from businesses with common mistakes, which could easily be avoided with a basic knowledge of how to prepare them. If they can put the mistakes right before they come to us they will save money and have more control over their business. Our recent workshops have all been oversubscribed so early booking is strongly recommended.”

The workshop is free to both Hodgsons existing clients and anyone else needing advice on how to keep their business accounts up to date. The workshop will take place at the Central Methodist Church in Launceston between 12.00pm and 7.00pm. Places are limited and are on a first come, first serve basis. To attend please contact Camilla Parsons by either calling (01566) 772177 or by emailing camilla.parsons@hodgsons.uk.com
