Cornwall to Birmingham? Cornwall to New York? Wherever you’re going, business trips needn’t be a hassle, says Newquay Cornwall Airport

With Cornwall as a starting point, a business trip within the UK or across the globe might feel like an effort. Travelling takes time, it’s stressful, and often you end up arriving and departing horribly early or exhaustingly late.

Spending hours on trains, with an unreliable internet connection and lots of distractions, is very few people’s idea of fun. Others might choose to brave the road, instantly regretting it when hitting summer traffic jams in a hot car. Put it all together and it’s not exactly a recipe for a stress-free journey.

Thank goodness, then, for a better alternative. At Newquay Cornwall Airport, we know that being based in Cornwall is a great choice for business but one that occasionally necessitates travel. And we don’t think it should be a massive headache when you do.

We can fly you from Cornwall to major UK destinations such as Manchester, London Gatwick, London Stansted, Edinburgh, Newcastle and Liverpool, all in under ninety minutes. From now until 24 October, we also run a daily service to Birmingham.

In order to help you arrive at your destination full of enthusiasm, we’ve found the perfect formula for a fast, stress-free business trip.

Firstly, we’ve got speed and convenience in hand. Travelling from Newquay to Birmingham is around a seventy-minute flight and passengers carrying only hand luggage can arrive just 45 minutes ahead of boarding time. Because we’re a small regional airport, there are less than 100 steps (yes, we’ve counted) from the departure lounge to your plane, making boarding a gentle stroll.

Another major stress factor for some passengers is parking. With us, you can save both time and money if you book in advance online.

Pre-paid parking is registered on our system through number plate recognition, meaning that when you arrive the barriers will automatically rise, and you don’t have to collect and display a ticket, meaning no queuing when you arrive back in Cornwall after your trip.

We also believe that any time here in the airport should be time well spent. We offer unlimited free WiFi to help you keep in touch or carry on working while you’re on the move.

Two Coffee Republic cafes ensure you’re refuelled, while for a limited time only for just £7.50 per person* you can access The Lounge. In this quiet room (separate to the main departures area), you can enjoy complimentary soft and alcoholic drinks, and light snacks on sofa-style seating until your flight departs**.

And what about those early morning pre-coffee trips to the train station? Our daily Birmingham flight leaves Newquay at 5.35pm, so you can come to us straight from work.

The return flight from Birmingham departs at 3.40pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday or 12.20pm on Tuesday and Thursday. For a Thursday morning meeting, you need only leave on Wednesday evening, and by the following afternoon you could be back in Cornwall.

For those venturing further afield, Birmingham International Airport is a perfect hub for onward travel. The airport offers flights to over 110 destinations worldwide, including Dubai, New York, Paris and Zurich.

There are a host of facilities to make your journey even easier, including a 24-hour, 365 days a year black cab service from directly outside the arrivals area, meaning that you can quickly be on your way to meetings after getting there.

Alternatively, if you’d rather not leave the airport at all, or have attendees arriving from many locations, you can hold your meetings there. Regus Express, next to the main terminal building, offers rooms and business facilities for quick and convenient gatherings.

For your return journey, make the most of what Birmingham International has to offer: three Executive Lounges, with the Aspire Lounge offering a quiet zone, free WiFi, and charging facilities. To fill the energy gap, there’s a selection of food and drink providers, including All Bar One, Pret a Manger, Deli Hub and Caffé Nero.

Perhaps now is the time to book those meetings or conference tickets you’ve been considering putting off? After all, you’re in Cornwall – the rest of the UK is only ninety minutes away and connectivity to worldwide destinations has never been easier.

  1. Having used the airport a number of times, my only gripe is the cost of parking. To use public transport would mean 3 changes of buses and a 2 hour each way trip including waiting. Cost of taxis are high and the advanced booking parking discount is miniscule. This has prevented both myself and my colleagues using the airport as frequently as we would like as it adds a huge cost – 3 days discounted parking is £15 more than a week at Bristol and doubled the price of my travel! In such a rural county with poor public transport links, this needs to be a consideration and development of the aerohub could provide a sensible, cost effective solution.
