Wave power, solar power, ‘hot rocks’, wind power. In the UK, Cornwall is recognised as a leader and pioneer of renewable energy.
And in the news this week, I spotted another form of wind power and great potential energy source that Cornwall could harness – poo power!
A VW Beetle running on the processed methane gas generated from raw sewage took to the streets of Bristol this week, to encourage sustainable motoring.
According to estimates, it would take the waste from 70 homes to generate enough gas for a car to run 10,000 miles.
Going on these calculations, just imagine how many cars and council vehicles County Hall could power for a year.
In these austere times of public spending cutbacks, it could prove to be a real winner.
