Bodmin Police Station 2

Midas Construction has completed the replacement police station in Bodmin six weeks ahead of schedule.

The project involved the construction of a three-storey police station for Devon and Cornwall Constabulary, incorporating a number of different departments. A single storey vehicle maintenance workshop and facility for dog handling has also been constructed.

This is the largest project undertaken by Devon and Cornwall Constabulary for over 20 years.

Murdo Mace, executive director for Midas, said: “We have been working on this project for over four years, firstly with the landowner Mark Alsop in his efforts to attract the police to his site, and latterly with the police throughout the design and construction stages.”

James Brady, building manager, at Midas Construction, said: “Due to the teamwork and effort from the client, site management, designers and sub contractors the project has progressed admirably and has been completed six weeks ahead of schedule.”

The new police station is a highly energy efficient building which is naturally ventilated with high levels of insulation. Automatically controlled windows will allow air to flow across and cool the exposed concrete ceiling. The windows close during the day allowing the cool temperature stored in the concrete to be released. This together with extensive solar shading to the south west facing elevations will provide a comfortable working environment during the summer months.

In addition solar panels will be positioned on the south elevation to pre-heat hot water for the showers, and a rainwater harvesting system will provide water to the main toilet block.
