First round of Scilly LAG funding approved

Following on from its official launch, the Isles of Scilly Local Action Group has made its first offer of funding to a project application submitted by a local business within the marine sector.
The project, which received widespread support from the marine sector, aims to deliver a faster, safer, and more environmentally friendly method of supplying fuel to the islands flotilla of resident boats and visiting yachtsman. The offer made was for £15k.
Programme manager Amanda Pender said: “This award made in furtherance of securing a range of sustainable transport initiatives reflects the importance that the marine sector plays in all our lives, benefits will be felt not only by professional boatman and the fishing community, but also by visiting yachtsman, the RNLI and of course the many islanders who own their own boat.
“This project,” she added, “Is only the first of what is anticipated to be an exciting and varied list of projects to receive funding, the response since the launch has been very encouraging.”
A project application by the Council of the Isles of Scilly to fund an enclosure for Normandy Swimming Pool was deferred pending further information.
The next round of funding from this locally led European/Defra funding stream will take place on the December 17. Anyone interested in submitting a project to the Isles of Scilly Local Action Group should email localaction@scilly.gov.uk for further information.
