Nominations open for Business Awards

Editorial director Nick Eyriey is an experienced and respected journalist having spent some 20 years in the local and national press working with newspapers such as The Yorkshire Post, Today, The Sun, and the Mail on Sunday.

Entries are now open for the fifth annual Cornwall Business Awards.

From today, any business based in Cornwall or the Isles of Scilly is welcome to enter one or more of 14 award categories, which include Best Young Business Person, Best Growth Strategy, and Customer Focus, sponsored by Business Cornwall magazine.

And a new category has been added for 2010 – Best Social Enterprise – in recognition of the growing importance of social enterprises to the economy of Cornwall and to complement the first year of activity at the pioneering Cornwall School for Social Entrepreneurs.

The prestigious awards will be presented at St Mellion International Resort on Thursday May 20, at a glittering presentation event designed to draw attention to Cornwall’s business community as a hotbed of innovation.

Martin Brooks, chairman of the Cornwall Development Company, said: “Every year the Cornwall Business Awards go from strength to strength, and we are thrilled to see so many new businesses emerging and thriving in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.”

Adam Chambers, CEO of Business Link for Cornwall, Devon and Somerset, added: “The Cornwall Business Awards are an opportunity for the top business people in Cornwall to be recognised and for others to be inspired by their success.”

This year, the judging panel includes for the first time Ernesto Sirolli, CEO of the Sirolli Institute of Sacramento, California; Dame Lynne Brindley, CEO of the British Library; and Business Cornwall director Toni Eyriey.

The new judges join an illustrious panel of leading business people, including Sir John Banham, Tim Smit and Sir John Smith, CEO of BBC Worldwide.

The Cornwall Business Awards website has been re-launched this year and now includes new features designed to showcase the successes of businesses in Cornwall.
