The South West of England Regional Development Agency (SWRDA) has named Phil McVey as the man to oversee how Convergence funding is spent in Cornwall.

As director of European programmes, McVey, who will be based in Truro, will work with partners and manage the distribution of some £470 million of EU funds in Cornwall, and £170 million of competitiveness funding across other parts of the south west.

McVey, who has previously worked for the Government Office for the South West and as an adviser on structural funds for the Czech government, commented: “There is a massive opportunity ahead to spur the development of the south west economy, especially in Cornwall, through these sizeable sums of European investment. My job will be to ensure that the right economic opportunities are identified and the investments targeted in the best way.”

McVey was born in Cornwall and still lives here today. He will be based in SWRDA’s Truro office and will work closely alongside the agency’s new director for Cornwall, Theo Leijser.
