Doors reopen on St Austell Learning Centre

The St Austell Learning Centre is set to be re-launched next week by local MP Matthew Taylor.

The centre, which has received heavy backing from Trades Unions and received financial support from the EU Convergence Fund, will officially be reopened on Wednesday, May 5, on the Holmbush Industrial Estate.

Taylor, who opened the original learning shop in 2004, said: “It was a big disappointment when the old learning shop closed, so it is very encouraging to see the Learning Centre back open and providing even better services to adult learners than before. The service it provides is especially important now unemployment is shooting up again in the face of recession.

“Education and learning support specifically for adults is vital in these difficult economic times, to ensure that our local workforce is as skilled and competitive as possible. That is the key to future employment and better incomes. The St Austell Learning Centre’s partnership with the Link into Learning, part of the Adult Education Service run by Cornwall Council, will mean they can always provide either direct practical training, or if there are different needs, help learners access a wide range of adult learning and education provided by Cornwall Council.”
