Cascade Springs Water Company has become the first water cooler distributor in Cornwall and Devon to achieve approved status for installing point of use water coolers.

Unlike a bottled cooler, a point of use machine connects direct to the mains water supply and removes chemicals and impurities to bring tap water up to higher quality and better taste – similar to spring water.

Cascade, based in Wadebridge, has gained Water Industry Approved Plumber Scheme (WIAPS) status after taking part in a point of use water cooler installers course led by training company, WRcNSF.

As a result Cascade has four qualified installers and is now the only drinking water distributor legally allowed to self-certify the installation of mains fed coolers.

“We’re really pleased to become the first WIAPS accredited company in Cornwall and Devon,” said Cascade’s managing director, William Hiley.

“I spoke with South West Water who informed me that we are the first company to gain the qualification, as well as the first to make contact with them and inform them that we will be installing mains fed water coolers in the area. That was quite a surprise.”

According to the 1999 Water Regulations in order to install a point of use or mains fed water cooler, the contractor has to have approved status or apply for permission directly from South West Water ten days in advance.
