The LSC Urges Cornwall to Make the Pledge

The Learning and Skills Council (South West) is urging Cornwall employers to commit to training their staff to celebrate the first anniversary of the Skills Pledge.

The Skills Pledge, which was launched in July 2007, is a public, voluntary commitment by an organisation to train all employees to Level 2 standard (5 GCSEs grade A-C).

Since its launch it has helped 327 companies in the South West and enabled thousands of employees to access training, 157 of these are from Devon and Cornwall.

Malcolm Gillespie, Regional Director for LSC South West, said: “Many organisations in Cornwall have already made the pledge and are benefiting from accessing the Train to Gain service which helps to guide companies on training.

However to celebrate its first anniversary we would like to encourage others to make the pledge and show their commitment to raising the skills levels of their employees. By doing so they will not only be investing in the future of those individuals, but also of their company and helping to plug the skills gaps in Cornwall as a whole.”

Companies from Cornwall who have made the pledge include: Truro College, Talling Construction and Trelawney Scaffolding.
