A local firm of property consultants is holding a series of land and planning open days to offer support to public and private sector clients wanting to beat the credit crunch.

Launched in response to the new market conditions and complex legislation, Vickery Holman is hosting the events to offer guidance on assessing options to ensure best value with development projects.

The open days take place at the company’s Truro office on February 11, Plymouth office on February 12 and Exeter office on February 13 from 10am – 4pm.

Vickery Holman’s head of land and planning, Anthony Eke, said:
“The economic downturn coupled with complex legislation has really affected both the public and private sector development market.

“Added to this we’re now starting to see a number of development sites with planning consent that are no longer viable. It can be worrying for both the public and private sector.

“But there are opportunities for successful and efficient outcomes and we aim to show that during these open days. By talking to them one to one at the open days they have an opportunity to discuss the issues.

“They can then benefit from our knowledge and expertise with development appraisals, legislation such as Section 106 agreements, to construction and then sales.”

One beneficiary in 2008 of Vickery Holman’s was disability charity Scope.

“Scope is a great example where we were involved from the beginning to gain a successful outcome,” said Eke.

“The charity had a building that had become surplus to requirements in Plymouth and it wanted to realise its full value.

“Our team first carried out a development appraisal to assess the best use of the land to gain maximum return, which was to turn the site into 14 dwellings.

“We then formed the planning application, which was granted in six months, dealt with Section 106 negotiations and offered legal advice regarding indemnity insurance, before marketing and selling the site.”

It is this knowledge that the company now want to pass on to developers and landowners across the South West through the open days.
Vickery Holman director, Mike Oldrieve, said: “We’re pleased to be launching the open days to help with public and private sector developments.

“It’s a great way for them to meet our dedicated land and planning team and benefit from their market presence across the region and specialist knowledge allowing them to correctly assess all options and ensure best value.”
